1932 after World War 1 and Violet, having lost her brother and fiance in the war needs to get away from her demanding and controlling mother. She moves to Winchester to a boarding house, works as typist, but gets involved with the broderers , a group of women involved in the embroidery of kneelers, choir bench cushions, hassocks and so on. She also gets involved with the bell-ringing.
This book is possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it due to the historical references of the period.
It had quite an interesting plot.
