The Witches by Roald Dahl

A boy and his grandmama come face to face with the Grand High Witch. The witches are known to dislike children. They come together to stop the witches in their scheme to do away with every child in the country (England).

She describes what the witches are like, even though they look like ordinary women. A friend went missing and they started investigating and knew how to recognise them. She described how they looked when they weren't disguised. One way the boy could prevent a witch getting him was to stay dirty. Cleanliness was a sign for them that it was a child. The pair of them found themselves in a room with women who displayed signs of being witches and found out their plan. They were opening candy shops which had an ingredient in the chocolate that was a mouse maker. By stages the child turns into a mouse. The solution to the mouse epidemic was mouse traps to kill the mice/children. The witches got the recipe to make Formula 86. The witches start their traps and the boy and his grandmama implement their plan to add the mouse ingredient to the soup all of the witches were going to eat and did, in fact, eat. They defeated the most dangerous witches in England. Then they decided to find all the other witches in the world to do and do the same.

I really enjoyed reading the book again and it was delightful being a graphic novel. It reminded me of reading the book years ago as a young girl.
