For all the very avid readers out there, I know that there comes a time when you have a hankering for a book or author that is a little out of the mainstream, or it’s old and out of print. You may be disappointed when the librarian tells you that sorry, we just don’t have that title in our library. Never despair, because the next question that your librarian is likely to ask you is, “Would you like us to inter loan that book for you?” This brings me to the topic of this blog post.
One of the services that we offer our members is an inter loan service. What this means is that Fiona, the inter loans librarian, will research this title and source it for you from another library. Usually the charge for this service is $4.00. Yes, that’s right, for less than the price of a standard cappuccino, you could have the book that you are yearning for in your hot little hands. Sometimes, the cost can be $14.00. The reason for this is that the book is harder to source, which means that the library willing to lend this book is either a non-reciprocal library, an academic library or Auckland libraries. If this is the case, Fiona will get in touch with you to check whether or not you still want the item.
So, if you are thinking of using this service, then I say go for it!! It is easy, painless and doesn’t cost the earth.
