Lessons in Chemistry is an interesting books and I definitely recommend it to others to read. It was published in 2022 and at the time was made aware through Goodreads, Bok Tok and other platforms similar to them. Later it was made into a series through Apple TV.
The genre of this book is a combination of historical fiction, humour and everyday relationships.
The book is set in the 1950's-1960's about two people, Elizabeth and Calvin. They both had a rough childhood which led them to stand up for themselves and make known to the world around them who they are, which is portrayed in the story. Calvin is a scientists and Elizabeth who wanted to be a scientist, but in that failed as women should only get married and not have opinions of their own. She became a Lab Technician. They both ended up working for the same company, met and fell in love. Then tragedy struck and Calvin had an unfortunate accident that killed him and left Elizabeth pregnant with their child. At the time it wasn't socially acceptable for women to be pregnant, not married and working. As the story unfolds it's about how Elizabeth survives and brings up their child and makes a name for herself starring as the host in a TV cooking show and incorporating into the show her passion for science, which was chemistry, and teaching women about it. She learns to live again and portrays that women can have more than marrying and having a family. She and her daughter uncover Calvin's origins of where he came from.
It's a light read, funny in places and sad. If this is tempting and you want to know more, then I recommend you to read it.
Happy reading if you do.
