The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Heather Morris brings us a story of love, hope, and survival during a time when it seems most unlikely. Set during World War 2 in the well-known concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau, Lale works the system and makes friends with those in higher power to secure a position as the tattooist. His attraction to Gita somehow gives him the will to survive the atrocities he sees. While so many other books about this era focus on the horrors, Morris paints us a love story and chooses to bring our attention to the friendships and connections made as well as the story behind what it takes to survive. She acknowledges the fears and, at the same time, light-heartedly carries us from blessing to blessing. She presents a refreshing perspective and reminds us that there is always hope, and with a little luck and faith, anything is possible.
