I would like to introduce the newest addition to the library.....the Hush Pod.
What is a hush pod? It is a small padded cubicle with curved sides and a desk attached. It is the perfect space for making phone calls or doing some quiet thinking/quiet work. You are still in the library, but in your own small space. It is also handily situated very close to a power plug so if you are using the pod you can still plug in your devices.
I had a test run in the pod last week, and I found it to be a very positive experience. I liked the height of the desk and the cosy, enclosed feeling of the space. Although it is not completely sound proof, noises in the library sounded slightly muffled. I definitely wished the university library had these when I was a student. I suggest that you come in and test drive the hush pod for yourself.
We also offer other study and quiet reading spaces in the library - long tables, comfortable armchairs, giant beanbags and a study desk. Plus, we have another room in the building that is available for people wanting to work quietly. We do run our programmes in this space, and some groups in the community use this space for meetings etc. When the room isn't being used for a programme or event, individuals can use it for quiet reading or study. Check out the noticeboard stand for a list of events running for the week.
I think it's fabulous that we can offer a space to our community that is welcoming, versatile and multi use. If you haven't already come down to visit us at the library, it is never too late. You are always welcome, we would love to see you!
