If you are familiar with the libraries in the Ōtorohanga District you know that we have an amazing selection of books, magazines, DVDs and e-resources...but did you know we offer so much more?
Today I am going to tell you all about the cool things that we offer at the library.
First of all, if you aren't already aware we offer free WiFi and public computers through the APNK (Aotearoa Peoples Network Kaharoa) network. We can also also sort out your printing and scanning needs. Patrons can print from our computers or from their own devices. Come on down to the library and one of the team members can assist you.
We also offer Skinny Jump modems. This is a scheme where eligible people can access a low cost modem for their household. This ensures that no-one misses out on being connected. If you are keen on this service, come into the library and one of the team members will help you. First of all we will check that Skinny is available at your address. If it is we can go to the next stage. Make sure you bring in your mobile device, i.e your phone, laptop or tablet so you can access the Skinny Jump app, which will make registering for the service easier.
Alongside our digital services we also offer some fabulous programmes for people of all ages.
For the preschoolers we run Storytime on Thursday mornings at 10.30am in the Programmes Room. Join us for 30 minutes of stories, songs and fun. On Friday mornings it's the babies turn with our Wriggle n Rhyme programme. This also starts at 10.30 am. Both programmes run during school term time and no registrations are needed, just turn up! We would love to see you.
For the primary school aged children there are several programmes to choose from.
If your child is into science and technology, there are several exciting STEM programmes that are run throughout the school year. Programmes include Lego club, Makey Makey, Keva Constructions, Ozobots, Littlebits, Arduino and Meccano. These programmes are run during the school term. Children must be registered for these activities as numbers are limited.
If your child is a keen reader, then there they can join in our summer and winter reading programmes. These programmes give a children a chance to participate in challenges where they read books, complete activities and go into the draw for some amazing prizes. These challenges are offered through the Beanstack App.
We also offer holiday programmes where children can come into the library and participate in craft based activities and other fun events. The last holiday programme was in April where children participated in activities that celebrated our love for our library.
Last, but certainly not least we also have offerings for the young at heart. If you love reading come along to the Book Discussion Group. This is held every 2nd Thursday throughout the year. Every month is a different theme, so it's an opportunity to stretch your reading. Feel free to join in a meeting for an hour of lively discussion of all things books and reading! All are welcome.
We may be small, but we are a hive of activity. Come on down and check us out!
